Oh You Know...

How 'bout a post full of random tidbits brought to you via the thoughts in my head?
  • At the end of the year last year, we were eating out 4-5 times a week....with a family of 5. It got EXPENSIVE! So, I've been trying to cook 6 times a week. So far, I've been successful, but I am running out of recipes. Anyone have some good ones?

  • I have been such a slacker lately taking pictures with my big camera. It's so convenient to grab my phone and snap a picture. But, I've decided that I am going to make a point to break out the big camera more often.

  • Speaking of big camera, I need to take a class to learn how to use it. I shoot in auto all the time. Any ideas?

  • The other day I had on red and blue. Catherine told me I was dressed like a boy because those are boy colors.

  • I have been keeping a "Bucket List" on my phone for a couple of months now. When I think of something else, I just add it in there. After church Sunday, I decided learning to play the bongos sounded like a must do for me.

  • I'm going to try to blog more about my "thoughts" on things. It could get a little political around here. Hope I don't offend you! (I'm sure it will be mostly funny...because you know...I am!)

  • The girls dance recital is fast approaching. I get giddy just thinking about it. I missed it last year and am DYING to see my dancing queens on stage!

  • This weekend, I am going on a girls trip to Kansas City. I absolutely CANNOT wait. I will miss my little family, but after the week I've had, I am in DESPERATE need of a girls trip. Shopping. Friends. Cocktails. Cupcakes. It's all good for the soul!

  • I know I've said this a million times, but I LOVE being a girl mom. Every day...I mean EVERY single day, I walk out of my room in the mornings after getting dressed and Emma says, "Oooo, Mommy! You look pretty!"

  • I have become a coffee drinker.

  • Travis and I are going to Vegas in May with my family. I am SUPER pumped. Travis...he's kind of indifferent about it. Weirdo!

  • Hannah is SUCH a planner like her Honey. She got up this morning and I told her to go eat breakfast first and she freaked out. She said she ALWAYS makes her bed first and she just needed to do it before she ate. Love my little dimpled OCD child!
So, that's about it for today. I am sure that was a thrilling blog post for you all! :) I'll be back Monday with a weekend recap: KC style!

Weekend Wrap Up: Bowling Night

Friday night, everyone was finally well enough to go bowling! The girls absolutely love to go to Fast Lanes, so we had a family bowling night with our friends and their kids. It was a blast!

The rest of the weekend, we just hung out a home, went to church and enjoyed each other's company. Saturday night, Catherine was on strike against her green beans. She was so mad that I was making her eat them. Proof of how she felt about eating green beans:

She did end up eating them...and it may or may not have involved bribery and a piece of cake. :)

Catherine ended up waking up Saturday night, multiple times complaining of an ear ache. Sure enough, she has a double ear infection. Other than that, all is well! Maybe it was the green beans?

Weekend Wrap Up: Sunday Drama

Friday night, we planned to go bowling. But, while I was at work, I got a call from Hannah's schools saying she was complaining of a sore throat and wasn't feeling well. So, I headed to pick her up.

Side note: Hannah is notorious for faking sick. I am talking puts on the water works and everything at school saying she is sick. She's apparently VERY good at it, because they almost always call me. Well, after this happened a couple of times, I explained to her teacher that she does that...and it's almost always on a Friday. I guess she's just done with the week. So, her teacher is good about not putting up with the nonsense. But, this Friday, Hannah had a substitute...who fell for it like a slinky down a flight of stairs.

Unfortunately for Hannah, Tara had text me that day asking if the girls wanted to have a sleepover at her house along with the Brown sisters. What's even more unfortunate for Hannah is that I am a STICKLER for no extra curricular activities if you aren't well enough to go (AND complete) the school day. So, Hannah didn't get to go.

Emma and Catherine went over to Tara's Friday evening and from what I can tell, had a ball. In fact, Catherine said she wanted to live there! :) They ate pizza, played dress up and got their nails painted. These girls love Tara!

While they were partying it up at Tara's. Hannah, Travis and I ordered pizza and tried to make it as boring as possible for Hannah. But, I did sneak some giggles and snuggles with my middle baby!

Saturday, Travis had to work. The girls and I decided to do a little lunching and shopping. We met up with the Brown girls for a Saturday trip to Mojitos and our favorite Fayetteville boutiques. It was fun to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Sunday, we went to church and had a typical day at home. While I was cooking, I looked in the living room and saw this happening:

After the girls went to bed, Travis let Gus out to go potty in the backyard. (Our backyard is fenced in, but apparently Gus knows how to unlatch the gate.)  About 10 minutes later, I got a call from someone saying our dog had been hit by a car. I FREAKED out. They were outside of our house with Gus in the car. Travis went a got him out and carried him into the house. He wasn't bleeding anywhere, except from his nose, and he wasn't limping. But, after looking him over, he just didn't seem OK, so we took him to the Animal ER. After an hour in the ER, the vet let me know that Gus was fine. In fact, he was the same old hyper dog we love. But, he is VERY sore still. Being hit by a car...it hurts...trust me...I know! :) So, he has done a lot of this the last day and a half.

Sweet, Gussy Boy is just so pitiful. Needless to say, we had a VERY eventful weekend. But, it was a good one and I am glad to say everyone is A-OK in our house!

What's Cookin'?: Venison Edition

Before I started dating Travis, I had never EVER eaten deer meat. His whole family hunts and so I was introduced to it through Sunday dinners at his Dad's house. It was almost ALWAYS fried like little Chicken Fried Steaks and I LOVED IT!

Fast forward several years. Travis still hunts and brings home deer meat. I had NO idea how to fry it, but eventually learned how. Being a working mom, I am pressed for time to cook dinner and inevitably, my kitchen is full of three little girls and one big husband claiming they are going to starve to death if dinner is ready by 6. Since I get home after 5 most days, that doesn't leave a ton of time to fry deer meat before my entire family dies of starvation.

So, I did some googling and found two recipes that my ENTIRE family loves. The stew takes about 15 minutes to prepare and I brown the meat before work and cook it all day. The "Venison" Hamburger steak takes about 30-40 minutes total prep + cook time.

**Please note: I am the LAZIEST cook around. I hate chopping, peeling, mincing, etc. So, if there is an alternative way to get the same results, I use it. Also, I don't like using or looking for "weird" ingredients at the store. So, I always just leave them out.

Venison Stew (adapted from All Recipes.com)

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 lbs venison stew meat (cut into chunks)
3 onions chopped (I always use the frozen bag...no chopping in this house!)
2 cloves garlic, minced (I use the store bought already minced garlic)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon salt
3 cups of water
7 small potatoes (quartered)
1 lb of carrots, cut to 1 inch pieces (I used a bag of baby carrots)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup water

In a skillet, brown the meat in the oil.
Transfer the meat to your crock pot.
Add onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, 3 cups of water and stir.
After all spices are mixed well with the meat, add the potatoes, carrots and any other veggies you want. (I added frozen green beans too.)
Cook on low for 4-6 hours.
About 30 minutes prior to eating, combine the flour and 1/4 cup of water. Then add it to the stew.
Serve with corn bread.

Hamburger Steak: Venison Style (adapted from a hamburger steak recipe on allrecipes.com)

1 lb ground venison
1 egg
1/4 cup bread crumbs
black pepper
season salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Crisco
1 thinly sliced onion
2 tablespoons flour
1 can beef broth

In a large bowl, mix together meat, egg, bread crumbs onion powder, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Form into patties. (I made 5 patties from a pound, but they were pretty big).
Heat the Crisco in a frying pan.
Fry the patties and onion until the patties are cooked through.
Remove patties from the skillet.
Add flour to the drippings and mix thoroughly.
Slowly add beef broth. (I always mix with the fork and smoosh the lumps)
Once the gravy is slightly thinner than the consistency you prefer (gravy will thicken as it cools), add the patties back to the pan.
Spoon gravy over the patties and simmer for 5 minutes.
Serve patties with gravy on top.

I can assure you these are EASY to make. Like I said, I am a lazy cook and am always looking for something quick that my whole family will eat. These recipes are both of those things and a nice alternative when I don't have time to fry deer meat (which I still do on occasion...because I love me some fried food!)

Let me know if you try this out!

Love Me

With the new year, brings tons of new resolutions. I have always made resolutions, because let's face it, I could stand to improve in areas of my life. Usually, one of them includes the age old "lose weight" resolution.

I am like 90% of people with that resolution. I hit it hard during January, but by June, it is but a fleeting thought that life has pushed to the furthest point of my mind. Until December rolls around...then I realize what resolutions I didn't accomplish for the year and end up have a small, albeit fabulous, pity party for myself and resolve to do better in the coming year. So, the cycle continues.

This year, I am stopping the cycle. No more impossible goals that end up making myself feel worse in the end. Now...don't get me wrong, I am not going to stop eating healthy and exercising when I can. But, my resolution this year is simple:

LOVE MYSELF

I don't mean, spend more time doing "Boni" things and less time doing family things. I don't mean wrapping myself in a daily hug.

I intend to love myself for the way God made me. I intend to see myself the way those who love me see me...both inside and out. I intend to embrace the fact that I will never NOT have a Kim Kardashian size booty. I intend to embrace the face that I cannot help but crack a joke in the most serious of situations. I intend to embrace my scars from this past year, knowing they are part of my story. I intend to be a better wife, friend, daughter and sister.

I want to see myself the way my children see me, because right now in their lives, they think I am the most beautiful, amazing super hero mommy in the whole wide world. I am also raising three daughters in a world where pressure to be the best-prettiest-smartest-skinniest girl of all is at an all time high. I don't want the world to steal their self-esteem. I tell them all the time to be the best YOU, you can be.

This goal is not impossible. God made me the way he did and He loves me for that. I am going to love myself to set a good example for those three little girls that look up to me. I am going to finally live out what I preach to them daily.

So, this year, my only goal is to be the best BONI I can be! Cheers to a very happy 2013!

Happy 2013

Several years ago, we decided it was too much trouble to find a babysitter on New Year's Eve, plus, it's fun spending that special night with your kids!

So, we started spending NYE with our friends and all their kids. We get dressed up, go to dinner and back to one of our houses to hang out and ring in the New Year. I wouldn't spend it any other way!

Williamson Christmas 2012 (Part 4)

Christmas Eve finally got here and all the excitement that comes with it. We started a tradition several years ago and Travis's mom always comes over Christmas Eve for church, dinner and gives out her gifts. The girls decorated cookies and Emma took some crazy pictures of me! I love our little tradition!

After tons of fun with Grammy, she went home and the girls got ready for bed hoping that Santa wouldn't pass our house!

I just love that we spend Christmas morning with just the five of us. (I am sure the grandparents don't!) The girls were very good this year and Santa spoiled them. We ate breakfast, watched movies and played with toys all day! It was supposed to snow, (but didn't), so we stayed in our PJs all day long! To end another wonderful Christmas season, Travis let the girls make s'mores in the fireplace. It was the perfect ending to another blessed Christmas!
